Op 7 januari 1962 richt Gérard Bitter Dansgroep Internationaal op. Zakelijk leider van het gezelschap is Paul Venker. Een jaar later verandert de naam in Danstheater Internationaal.

In 1966 fuseerde het met dansgroep Terpsichore tot Het Folkloristisch Danstheater.
