ESTHER PROTZMAN
EDUCATION: Esther received her ballet-eduction at the Royal Conservatoire Dance in The Hague, Netherlands and graduated from the Royal Ballet School Antwerp, Belgium. After the Prix de Lausanne competition in '79, Marika Besobrasova offered her a scholarship to study at the Académie Princesse Grace in Monte-Carlo, Monaco. She enjoyed a wonderful carreer with the Royal Ballet of Flanders and as a soloist with the Dutch National Ballet, Amsterdam, where she danced all classical principal roles.
PRINCESS AURORA: Esther received a Dancersfund Prize by Alexandra Radius and Han Ebbelaar for her excellent debut performance of Princess Aurora in Sir Peter Wright's The Sleeping Beauty at Dutch National Ballet. She danced leading roles in both classical as well as in van Manen-, van Dantzig-, van Schaijk-, Balanchine-, Ashton- and contemporary repertoire.
BUDAPEST: After her dancing-carreer she joined the Vaganova Teachers Training course at the Hungarian Dance University in Budapest. She became a teacher at the National Ballet Academy in Amsterdam in 1998 and was a balletmaster for the project "Voetsporen van de dans" in coöperation with Dutch National Ballet. Many collaborations followed with the students in the big classical productions such as La Sylphide, Romeo & Julia, Giselle, Cinderella and the Sleeping Beauty.
ARTIST AS TEACHER: She deepened her knowledge by following teachers-courses in Toronto, Canada at the Royal Ballet School, London, at David Howard, New York, with Frank Anderson and Dinna Björn: Bournonville style Denmark, Kirov Academy, Leningrad (now Vaganova Academy St. Petersburg). She studied foot-reflexology and nutrition. In 2017 she completed the Progressing Ballet Technique Teachers Course and the Teacher development programm "The Artist as Teacher".
MASTERCLASSES: Esther taught Masterclasses in classical ballet and gave workshops at (inter)national schools from Amsterdam to Australia. She has been a regular guest-teacher at Amsterdans Competition, Valencia Endanza, at Au tour des Arts, Paris, Prague Ballet Masterclasses, and at the International Dance Intensive at the Royal Conservatoire The Hague, Netherlands.
HONOURED: In 2022 she was awarded the Special Prize at the Dutch Ballet Gala for her determination, knowledge, style and understanding of working with children and young adults.Since 2015 she has been staging adapted versions of the great Classical Ballets for the pupils of the Royal Conservatoire Dance department.
COMPETITIONS: She has been judging and coaching several students for International Ballet Competitions such as Prix de Lausanne, YAGP in Barcelona, Concours de Danse Classique in Grasse, France and the Budapest Ballet Grand Prix with great results.
ROYAL CONSERVATOIRE DANCE: Her passion lies in guiding young dancers towards their goal in life. Esther has been a permanent teacher at the Royal Conservatoire Dance since 2001.
