Biografie
1962 born Eric Blom was educated as Architectural and Civil engineer. In the late eighties he worked for several theatre companies among which the international performing Stuffed Puppet Theatre of Australian Neville Tranter. Since the beginning of the nineties Blom was employed as lighting technician by Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT) where he was involved in many dance productions, tours and international festivals for NDT1, NDT2 and NDT3. From 2008 he applied to the position as technical director of the company. Which he end in 2024. From 2012 he was involved as theatre technical advisor in the development for the new cultural centre AMARE in The Hague, the new home of the NDT. Over a period of more than 30 years he has been working with choreographers as Jiří Kylián, Sol León & Paul Lightfoot, Hans van Manen, Mats Ek, Ohad Naharin, Marco Goecke, Johan Inger and Medhi Walerski. Blom visit thru the years more than a hundred theatres and venues all around the world, from Tokyo to Buenos Aires, Montreal to Wellington, Moscow to Los Angeles, Paris to Taipei, Oslo to Seoul and Beijing to Rio de Janeiro. Blom created several lightings and set designs for dance and theatre productions for companies such as Djazzex Modern Jazz Dance Company and Stuffed Puppet Theatre. As freelancer Blom has re-created original settings by choreographers Jiří Kylián and Sol León & Paul Lightfoot in theatres and opera houses around the world, among which the l'Opéra de Paris, Palais Garnier, The Australian Ballet, Arts Centre Melbourne, LesGrands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal, Place des Arts, Den Norske Opera Ballet, Oslo and the Munich State Ballet. He also works as technical producer for the 2023 production Stars Like Moths by Sol Leon.
To complete his range of activities, Eric Blom is editor of the 2nd edition of study and reference book Lighting Technology (Lichttechniek De Basis). And former member of the board of the Duthc Societ of Stage Technology (VPT).
